The Pip was on her toes. The question was, were we?
Some say girls can't keep up with boys. Some say that girls aren't nearly as rough or mischievous as boys. Some say that girls sit still and boys are always on the move.
Only those with girls like The Pip understand that the above is not entirely true.
One day The Pip decided it would be great fun to throw her dolly up in the air as high as dolly would go. If dolly could touch the ceiling, then The Pip would set a new goal...could dolly go through the ceiling? Nevermind the fact that she had been told the day before and on this particular day NOT to throw dolly high in the air. Nevermind that she was going to trample her little brother with her wild jumping and throwing. Nevermind that her parents were watching her. Nevermind that there would be consequences. She was focused on her new game.
On one unfortunate throw, dolly went up but did not come down. Dolly landed on the living room fan blade and that was where we told her dolly would stay for a while...the intention being a visual reminder of disobedience.
The Pip, being The Pip of course, brought on her best game of DRAMA. She WANTED dolly. Tears, whining, complaining, begging, great sadness, all in an effort to get her parents to relent. Unfortunately, The Pip has parents who love her very much, believe in valuable lessons and are on the same page. What a drag for her. We were unmoved.
In desperation, she played her wild card...the last move...manipulation of the mind...the kind where she might be able to outsmart her parents. In the living room, she crawled up into daddy's lap, cuddled and very carefully executed her scheme. With great feeling in her voice she said, "Daddy, it is so hot in here. I'm sweaty."
Desperately trying to keep straight faces, we, the parents, stood firm. Clearly, we have begun a new chapter in our lives...Little Miss Smartypants.
